Counting progress from the IEC live results feed. The table below carries the exact as-at time. Figures move as more voting districts are captured.

Important

These figures are provisional. They show only how far counting has got. We will not publish party percentages, seat figures or turnout for Emfuleni, Midvaal or Sedibeng until the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) declares the results. By law the IEC must declare results within seven days of voting day.1

Counting progress in the Vaal

As at: 09:13 on Thursday 5 November 2026 (IEC feed ReportDate).

Municipality Voting districts counted Of total Progress
Emfuleni (GT421) 4 168 2%
Midvaal (GT422) 11 39 28%
Sedibeng District (Emfuleni + Midvaal + Lesedi) 30 247 12%

Sedibeng District Municipality covers three local municipalities: Emfuleni, Midvaal and Lesedi. The IEC feed publishes voting-district progress for each local municipality, not a separate Sedibeng District row. The Sedibeng line above is the sum of those three locals’ voting districts.2

We are not listing party shares, seats or turnout here.

What happens next
  • Counting continues at voting stations and capturing centres until every voting district is in.
  • Councillors take office when the IEC declares the results for each council.3
  • New councils must hold their first meeting within 14 days of that declaration, and elect a speaker.4

For how councils are made up after the vote, see our Vaal guide to local government and mayor, speaker, whip and municipal manager explained.
